There are 3 major decisions we can make to start our path to change today. If you are unable to control these 3 decisions, you have no control over your life.
1 – What to focus on
– What do you usually focus on? About what you like, or what worries you?
You can focus your attention on fears, negative thoughts and why things could go wrong. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. Most people act in this way. You can choose instead to focus on the things that excite you, on the opportunities that the world could present to you.
– Do you focus on the past, the present or the future?
Many people live off their past, on the mistakes made and on the things they have lost. Since decisions and actions can only be taken at this time, the most useful focus for changing life is the present one.
– Do you have a short or long term focus?
Modern society leads us to focus on instant gratification. For example smoking a cigarette will gratify us immediately, but over time it will become harmful to health.
Therefore, to change one’s life, a vision is needed that takes into account the result of our long-term actions.
2 – What are the things that mean something to you?
Each situation can be given a different meaning. This meaning determines the way you feel and behave and is influenced by an internal system that guides you in making decisions, as an invisible force.
This system is based on 5 components:
1) your beliefs
2) your values
3) your references
4) the questions you ask yourself
5) the emotional states you have at all times
Taking action on just one of these 5 points will allow you to make the changes you want in your life.
An example: by intervening on the beliefs through which you observe the world, the meaning you attribute to situations will change and consequently the way in which you feel and how you will act.
3 – What actions to take to create the results you want
Each person can do different things in the same situation in which they find themselves. This is what makes the difference. Different actions, produce different results by determining the reality we will live.
Think about where you were 10 years ago? What did you like to do? Who were your friends? What were your dreams and hopes? What would you have answered if someone had asked you then “where do you see yourself in 10 or 15 years?” Now you find yourself where you wanted to be 10 years ago?
So maybe you might ask yourself: how do I want to live the next 10 years of my life? How can I live my life today to create the tomorrow I want? What matters to me now and what is important to me in the long term? What actions can I take today to shape my destiny?
And you, what actions can you take to create your destiny?
