Did you ask yourself how many things you would have done if you stop procrastination? How many times do you want to do something but you feel stuck and in doubt ? There is a little trick to making sure you can act before the mind can block you, finding excuses and paralyze you. This trick is the 5-second rule. When you feel like doing something but feel hesitant, start a 5 seconds countdown and then act. This will allow you NOT to analyze the task in too much detail. When you have the impulse to act towards a certain goal, you have to do it within 5 seconds, otherwise your brain will block the action. To avoid the stress associated with that type of action, you will find the easy way: procrastinate.
Procrastination is an automatic reaction to the feeling of resistance that you can experience in certain activities. This technique works because the 5 second countdown distracts a part of the brain responsible for mental rumination (a form of continuous thinking based on negative evaluation of yourself that often leads to paralysis). All this triggers a series of beneficial effects:
- first of all, you will stop procrastination and take action;
- When you set a goal and reach it, your mind is driven into finish the next steps;
- a positive impact on your self-esteem
This technique can be a necessary and practical means to be implemented immediately to achieve your goals.
Hesitation most of the time, takes precedence over an action you should do, put into practice the 5-second rule.
A set list to follow to stop procrastination and practice the 5 second rule:
1) Set your goal;
2) Identifies the necessary actions to achieve it and the exact moment to put them into practice;
3) Countdown from 5 to 0 … before reaching 0, do it.
Many times what you want in life is not achieved because of hesitation and continually postpone what you should do immediately! You can stop procrastination with this little trick can break this vicious circle. This technique also works in other situations.
For example: would you like to say something that you think of someone but never succeeded? Start the mental countdown from 5 to 0 and when you’re at 1 … say it! Think about how many things you could do, simply by distracting your mind from the habit of procrastinating. Procrastination is in fact one of the main reasons why your are on the wrong way to reach any desired unconsciously dream.
Procrastination is not just an habit, it is a lifestyle. Stopping procrastination takes time and several steps to follow.
Remember: no goal can be achieved without taking action.

When our mind leads us to procrastinate, it does it because it automatically search for other activities that are more pleasant to do. Another technique to stop procrastinating is to find other people who have to do the same thing as you. In this way you will be able to surround yourself with those who have the same interests as you and therefore they will give you the willpower to complete your goal.
This strategy can only work if the person you choose does not procrastinate. In this way you can follow his path more easily.
